🐾 Volunteer Opportunities at Shkoder Cat Cafe & Spaying it Forward

Join our mission at Shkoder Cat Cafe to care for, protect, and find homes for cats in Shkodër, Albania!

Shkoder Cat Cafe is a community-oriented cat café and adoption hub connected with the longstanding animal welfare project Spaying it Forward, which has spayed/neutered thousands of cats in the Shkodër area and continues to expand opportunities to help cats in need.

🐱 Volunteer Roles & Activities

🪤 Trapping & TNR Support

Help with the humane Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) process:

  • Assist trained volunteers in setting up humane traps for community cats.
  • Monitor traps and help ensure cats are safely captured and transported to clinics for spaying/neutering.
  • Participate in releasing cats back to their safe outdoor homes after recovery.
    This work helps reduce cat overpopulation and supports the well-being of free-roaming cats.

📌 Training or supervision may be provided for humane trapping.

💉 Medicating & Medical Assistance

Support the care and recovery of cats before and after veterinary procedures:

  • Help administer medications under guidance.
  • Assist with basic health checks and monitoring recuperating cats.
  • Coordinate with caregivers to ensure proper post-surgery care.

🍽️ Feeding & Daily Care

Provide daily care to cats on site or in the community:

  • Prepare and distribute nutritious food and fresh water.
  • Clean feeding areas and monitor food supplies.
  • Keep records of each cat’s feeding preferences and routine.

❤️ Cat Socializing & Enrichment

Socialization is key for adoptability and emotional well-being:

  • Spend quality time with shy or stressed cats, helping them grow comfortable with people.
  • Provide playtime with toys and help create enrichment opportunities.
  • Build trust with more reserved cats to improve their chances of adoption.

📣 Community Outreach & Education

Help spread awareness about TNR and compassionate animal care:

  • Represent Shkoder Cat Cafe and Spaying it Forward at community events.
  • Educate visitors and residents on the importance of spaying/neutering and responsible pet care.
  • Participate in workshops, outreach campaigns, and local engagement efforts.

📸 Photography & Media

Support our digital presence and adoption efforts:

  • Take high-quality photos of cats for adoption listings and the cafe’s website.
  • Create engaging content for social media that highlights cats’ personalities.
  • Help edit photos and assist in maintaining online galleries.

✍️ Writing & Communications

Help tell the story of our mission:

  • Write blog posts or newsletters about volunteer experiences, TNR outcomes, and café news.
  • Draft adoption profiles that capture each cat’s unique character.
  • Create engaging content to attract volunteers, donors, and adopters.
